OC from NC - Artist Bio (Full)
Octavius Taylor, better known as OC from NC, is a hip-hop artist whose journey began with a name
rooted in camaraderie and evolved through wisdom. Starting as "OC"—a nickname derived from
"Oc(ahk)" given by close friends—his moniker was refined after a late-night conversation with Cesar
Comanche of the Justus League. Comanche encouraged him to add "from NC" to distinguish
himself from the legendary artist OC of Diggin’ in the Crates. The addition not only set him apart but
also allowed him to carry the pride of his home state everywhere he went.
Born and raised in Burlington, North Carolina, affectionately known as "The Buck" or "B Town," OC
attributes much of his artistry to his hometown's unique culture. In a place where mediocrity isn’t
tolerated, OC learned to excel. Burlington’s unyielding demand for greatness shaped his relentless
work ethic and musical ambition.
Tragedy marked OC’s early years when his father was murdered at age three, prompting a move to
Burlington with his mother. It was there that his love for hip-hop was ignited, introduced in a
methodical sequence—Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, and Biggie—like a masterclass in lyricism. These
legends continue to influence his music to this day.
Over the years, OC has accumulated a remarkable list of accomplishments: national tours across the
West Coast, multiple "Best Hip-Hop Artist" awards in North Carolina, collaborations with notable
artists like Jaren Benton, G Yamazawa, and members of the Justus League, as well as placements in
movies and acting roles. His standout performances include opening for Benny the Butcher and
Conway the Machine at their first shows in NC, rocking stages at the Art of Cool Festival alongside
Rakim, Just Blaze, and George Clinton, and electrifying crowds at Durham’s Beats and Bars Festival
and curating Greensboro’s annual Shrimp n Grits Festival, which recently headlined Freeway and
Beanie Sigel.
OC’s creative process is deeply rooted in life experiences, often inspired by real events and
emotions. With beats sourced through collaboration, his music is unapologetically organic—“no
GMOs,” as he puts it. His approach to songwriting involves letting beats play on repeat throughout
his daily routine until the lyrics naturally emerge.
Looking ahead, OC is set to release his highly anticipated album, Project 25, on January 1, 2025.
While music remains his core focus, he’s also expanding his reach into acting and entrepreneurship,
embodying a vision for a multifaceted legacy.
In a world where image often overshadows artistry, OC aspires to leave a legacy defined by the
integrity of his work. He hopes his lyrics will one day be studied alongside the greats, recognized for
the meticulous craft and passion he pours into every bar.
With Burlington in his heart and hip-hop as his platform, OC from NC continues to prove that
greatness isn’t just an expectation—it’s a way of life
